In 2024, according to science, our beloved M416 is no longer competitive. 5 years ago, it was awesome, it had everything, there was almost no reason not to use it, so it was common to see players using top up uc pubg mobile service to get skins to decorate it in the game. It was good enough to be used as a makeshift SMG in close quarters combat, a makeshift DMR in long-range combat, and everything in between, but now it has changed.
M416’s DPS
It’s pretty clear from the chart below, which ranks each gun by DPS, that the M416 is now tied with the G36C as the slowest fully-auto weapon.
Gun Name | Type | Practical DPS |
S1897 | SG | 555.9 |
QBZ-95 | AR | 551.5 |
SCAR-L | AR | 551.5 |
NS2000 | SG | 549.6 |
DP-28 | LMG | 549.4 |
Thompson SMG | SMG | 546.7 |
M416 | AR | 536.6 |
G36C | AR | 536.6 |
M16A4 | AR | 506.0 |
P1911 | Pistol | 502.0 |
P18C | Pistol | 411.5 |
You could say the M416 was very slow to kill a long time ago because it was the most accurate AR in the game at the time, and its spray accuracy and headshot ability made up for the M416’s slow kill rate. Unfortunately, since then, many new weapons have come out, other guns have received buffs and power increases, and the M416 has remained largely unchanged since 2019.
M416’s Recoil
As you can see from the chart below in terms of total recoil, the M416 is now more unpredictable to shoot than the QBZ, SCAR-L, and AUG.
Name | Total Unpredictability Per Second |
G36C | 90.72 |
QBZ | 99.80 |
SCAR-L | 119.94 |
AUG | 120.47 |
M416 | 125.70 |
FAMAS | 132.98 |
In terms of horizontal unpredictability, it’s below average and only slightly better than the M762, meaning that when you control the recoil, the M416 will tend to wiggle left and right, drawing a circle around the target. Then again, the M416 has never been nerfed. It’s just that the recoil of other weapons has slowly been nerfed a little over the past 5 years, to the point where it’s no longer competitive to return to “Best Weapon of 2019”.
Name | Horizontal Unpredictability Per Bullet |
G36C | 7.67 |
FAMAS | 7.81 |
AUG | 8.67 |
QBZ | 8.74 |
ACE32 (Update 3.1) | 10.74 |
SCAR-L | 11.00 |
M416 | 11.59 |
M762 (Update 3.0) | 12.30 |
M762 (Update 3.1) | 13.37 |
ACE32 (Update 3.0) | 14.30 |
Groza | 16.15 |
However, the M416 is still without a doubt the best AR in the game in terms of vertical unpredictability.
Name | Vertical Unpredictability Per Bullet |
M416 | 2.44 |
SCAR-L | 2.60 |
FAMAS | 3.02 |
AUG | 3.40 |
QBZ | 3.47 |
AKM | 3.53 |
G36C | 3.79 |
ACE32 (Update 3.0) | 3.82 |
Honey Badger | 3.83 |
Groza | 4.31 |
M762 (Update 3.1) | 4.85 |
M762 (Update 3.0) | 6.09 |
So what do we have here? We have an AR that takes forever to kill in a game where death is dictated in milliseconds, has a recoil that is at BEST, average amongst other ARs, and is also incredibly attachment dependent. Compared to other 5.56 ARs, on top of the Compensator, and grip, you also need that extra tactical stock to fully max out the M416’s accuracy. Anyway, the M416 is going bad in 2024, what’s your opinion?
